The long-term goal of the Monolingual and Bilingual Reading Comprehension (MBRC) study is to examine the structure of reading comprehension in middle and high school students and to determine which cognitive and linguistic factors contribute to reading comprehension outcomes.

Working memory - an individual’s ability to process and store incoming information over short periods - is a more powerful predictor of learning in children than IQ, but working memory is not considered in contemporary instructional design.
